Bedroom Furniture with a Rustic Feel

If you have always wanted to live in a cabin out in the woods, but you've just not had the opportunity, you might want to consider buying some bedroom furniture that has a rustic vibe to it.

While it might not be the same as living in a luxury log cabin in the woods, you can at least set the scene and bring a little something wild back into the bedroom.

Believe it or not but rustic bedroom furniture or indeed rustic styled furniture for the entire house - is quite popular today.

In fact, it's so popular that you may even find that you have many options to choose from when it comes to actually buying something. Now, before we get off on the wrong foot, I'm not talking about camper cots here.

When I say rustic, I mean real salt of the earth stuff, handmade and bespoke. This is furniture that comes from craftsmen who put a lot of time and effort into each piece.  Everything they make is unique because they are always using natural materials and different wood for each project. Of course, this also means that the price is going to be much higher but let's face it - it's worth it.

Another option is to buy manufactured bedroom furniture that has the appearance of being handmade. As you can guess, this is generally not quite as pricy as the furniture that is handmade and the quality won't be the same but if you want to save some money, this is probably going to be the best or only option for you. Don't be put off by the idea of buying something that is mass produced though, these days manufactured furniture has a lot of variety to it.

Anyway, let's get back to the point, rustic style bedroom furniture. From the frames for your bed to the headboard, dressers, armoire and nightstands, rustic options abound.

When you are buying, it's a good idea to make sure that your furniture not only matches but fits the space or room that it was intended for. That means you will probably want to order all of your pieces through the same company or maker. Design Queens Colin and Justin demand that purchases be made in pairs and so do we.

Rustic by nature can be subtle or very over powering so it is a good idea to add some other décor to the room to help achieve the overall rustic affect that you want but with a soft inviting atmosphere about it.

Handmade quilts, large candles, chunky mirrors and wicker laundry baskets are the kind of bedroom accessories that will help you stay true to your theme. Try use accessories that compliment your room so that your bedroom has flair with continuity. Make or break is often determined by the accessories.

Thanks for the great bedroom furniture article, I have always loved the earthy, rustic feel that wood can bring to a bedroom. I totally agree with the idea of using alternative decor for some of the soft furnishings etc to tone the rustic look down a little and create a comfortable and intimate space!

Hi JJ, we spend a lot of time on the Mustard Monkey UK site, probably too much... anyway we bought a great Coffee Table the other day from Mobius Living, they have some fantastic solid wood pieces and just great furniture in general which would certainly get you closer to that rustic feel that you are after. KAL xx

Hi JJ, Thanks for posting your question, we know that a lot of people struggle with the same problem. We would suggest that you have a look at couple of different retailers to get some good ideas and inspiration. It’s often a good idea to focus on getting a few of your key items in place like the bed and perhaps even the wardrobe and then you can concentrate on building your bedroom around those pieces of furniture. In meantime, try these stores on the website: George Street Furnishers, Woodhouse and Papa Theo.

Hi Mustard Monkey, You guys obviously deal with a lot of UK retailers, perhaps you could recommend one that specializes in Rustic Furniture. We have been looking to furnish our bedroom for a long time but as you say it’s important to get the right pieces. Any advice would be appreciated. JJ
